Marine accident round-up : 8th July 2021

General cargo ship Ramona (IMO 8420713) ran aground shortly after midnight on June 5th on the north-west coast of Faro island, Gotland, Sweden. The vessel appeared to have sailed straight into the coast. The ship was en route from Klintehamn, Gotland to Riga, Latvia, with cargo of logs. A coast guard boat was nearby. As of June 7th it was still aground.

1985-built, Finland-flagged, 1,297 gt Ramona is owned and managed by Ronja Marin Ltd of Parainen, Finland.

A 36-year-old member of the engine crew of cruise ship Celebrity Constellation (IMO 9192399) was in need of medical treatment while the vessel was in the Argolic Gulf, southern Greece. The ship sailed to the anchorage of Nafplio and the crewmember was  disembarked with the assistance of a patrol boat. He was picked up by an ambulance and taken to Nafplio General Hospital.

2002-built, Malta-flagged, 90,940 gt Celebrity Constellation is owned by Constellation Inc-Lib care of manager Celebrity Cruises Inc of Miami, Florida, USA. It is entered with UK Club on behalf of Celebrity Cruises Inc.

Four stowaways were found aboard cargo ship Elbcarrier (IMO 9388510) at the port of Belfast on June 4th. After being alerted by the crew, the Border Force proceeded to the port at 08:30 local time. The four men told officials they were from Libya and that they had boarded the ship at Antwerp. One of them was found to have suffered minor injuries and all four were taken to the hospital to be assessed and tested for Covid-19. The ship left the port again on June 5th headed back to Antwerp, ETA June 7th.

2007-built, Cyprus-flagged, 8,246 gt Elbcarrier is owned by Contarga Ltd care of ISM manager USC Barnkrug of Drochtersen, Germany. It is managed by Elbdeich Bereederungs GmbH. It is entered with Skuld (Business Unit Skuld Oslo 1) on behalf of Contarga Ltd.

General Cargo ship Olivia M (IMO 9349459) had to interrupt its voyage from Iskenderun, Turkey to Nyborg, Denmark,on June 3rd, when it was South of Sicily after the Russian Chief Engineer was reported to be suffering from heart attack symptoms. The Italian Coastguard deployed an SAR helicopter with a doctor on board. He was dropped off and attended the patient with emergency aid. He was then hoisted onto the helicopter and transferred to hospital. The freighter moored at Trapani Anchorage in the evening hours. As of the afternoon of June 7th the vessel was sailing south of Almeira, heading for the Strait of Gibraltar.

2010-built, Latvia-flagged, 6,668 gt Olivia M is owned by Framgang Shipping GmbH &Co care of Fehn Ship Management of Leer, Germany. It is entered with Thomas Miller Specialty out of Hamburg.
