Marine accident round-up : 2nd August 2021

Offshore processing ship Höegh Esperanza (IMO 9780354) ran aground in Rio de la Plata fairway while approaching Buenos Aires at around 01:00 UTC on July 30th, late July 29th local time. The tanker was en route from Corpus Christi and was understood to be in load. The vessel was refloated during the evening July 30th and resumed moving towards port of destination Escobar LNG Plant. As of July 31st the vessel was anchored off La Plata, probably for inspection.

2018-built, Norway-flagged, 110,499 gt Höegh Esperanza is owned by Hoegh LNG FRSU VI Ltd care of Hoegh LNG AS of Oslo, Norway. It is entered with Gard P&I on behalf of Höegh LNG FSRU VI Ltd.

General cargo ship Suvari H (IMO 9055931) was reported on July 29th as sinking in Arabian sea about 180 nm east of Gulf of Kutch, India. Five crew were reported to have been rescued, but 13 remained missing. The ship left Kandla port, Gulf of Kutch, on July 26th port of destination unidentified, but sailing in a westerly direction. Rough weather was thought to be a possible cause of the sinking.

1993-built, Gabon-flagged, 7,708 gt Suvari H is owned and managed by Suvari Shipping Co SA of Panama City. ISM manager is GMZ Ship Management Co SA of Beirut, Lebanon

Two of the 23 crew members of chemical/oil products tanker MTM Southport (IMO 9416032) were disembarked at the port of Santos and taken to hospital on July 27th after displaying symptoms of Covid-19. The ship was moored and quarantined in the anchorage area of the Santos pier. Fourteen crew members had tested positive for Covid and were isolated on board. The vessel entered quarantine on July 24th. The vessel was loaded with barrels of ethanol and was anchored in Barra de Santos. It had arrived at the Santos pier on July 20th, coming from the port of Salvador, Bahia.

2008-built, Singapore-flagged, 11,770 gt MTM Southport is owned by Houyoshi Ocean/Komenaka Kaiun care of Thenamaris Conbulk Inc of Athens, Greece.  It is managed by MR Maritime Pte Ltd of Singapore. It is entered with North of England on behalf of Houyoshi Ocean Corp.

Boutique passenger ship Hanseatic Spirit (IMO 9857640), the third expedition class newbuild for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, will be christened on August 24th. The naming ceremony will take place near the North Sea island of Heligoland as part of a five-day voyage that will start and end in Hamburg. In addition to the christening guests on board, the Heligoland and island guests have been invited to attend the naming ceremony.

2021-built, Malta-flagged, 15,651 gt Hanseatic Spirit is owned and commercially by TUI Cruises GmbH of Hamburg, Germany. ISM manager is Global Fleet management LLC of Miami, Florida, USA. It is entered with UK Club on behalf of TUI Cruises GmbH.
