Marine accident round-up : 26th October 2023

The US Treasury Department has placed general cargo ship Parnia (IMO 9167265) on its blacklist in a round of sanctions targeting Iran’s ballistic missile and unmanned aerial vehicle export programmes. The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) placed sanctions on the vessel, which has historically been used to carry weapons exports for Iran’s Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics.

1999-built, Iran-flagged, 16,694 gt Parnia is owned by Mosakhar Darva Shipping Co care of manager Rabharan Omid Darya Ship Management Co of Tehran, Iran. As of October 23rd the vessel was at Asaluyeh Anchorage, Iran.

The sanctioned RoRo cargo ship Lady R (IMO 9161003) appeared to visit a North Korean port at the centre of alleged arms trade between Russia and the DPRK twice this month, including on October 19th. The Lady R stopped broadcasting its AIS on October 2nd after visiting Vostochny Port in Nakhodka.

2004-built, Russia-flagged, 7,260 gt Lady R is owned and managed by MG-Flot LLC of Akhty, Russia.

Bulk carrier Navios Sagittarius (IMO 9316866) was reported to have suffered from an electrical issue at on October 21st while it was in the central part of Dardanelles, Turkiye, while transiting the Strait in a southern direction, en route from Bulgaria to Egypt. Traffic Control tugs responded and the vessel was taken to Karanlik Anchorage, apparently under its own power but being escorted by the tugs.

2006-built, Panama-flagged, 38,849 gt Navios Sagittarius is owned by Wealth Line Inc care of Fukujin Kisen KK of Imabari, Japan. It is managed by Navios Ship Management Inc of Piraeus, Greece. ISM manager is Navios Maritime Management Inc of the same address. It is entered with Gard P&I on behalf of Wealth Line Inc. Gard AS is claims leader for Hull on behalf of Navios Shipmanagement Inc. As of October 23rd the vessel was underway from Burgas, Bulgaria (departed October 19th) to Alexandria, Egypt, ETA October 24th.

Rescuers from the Argentine Naval Prefecture medevaced a crew member of bulk carrier Ingenuity (IMO 9710787) who had an accident while the ship was navigating at kilometre mark 138 of the Paraná River, province of Buenos Aires, en route from Singapore and destined for Punta Alvear, The 61 years old male from Romania had fallen from a height of six meters into the cargo hold, suffering a severe injury to his arm and his head. After carrying out a radio consultation with a doctor, a medevac was recommended, and a helicopter with specially trained Prefecture personnel took off from the Buenos Aires Air Station. Once at the ship, the crew member was hoisted directly from the hold and received the first attention on board the aircraft, while ashore an ambulance from the Department was waiting, which transferred the victim to the Argerich Hospital for medical care.

2014-built, Liberia-flagged, 40,937 gt Ingenuity is owned by Ingenuity Marine Inc of Monrovia, Liberia. It is managed by Sea Pioneer Shipping Corp-Lib of Athens, Greece. It is entered with West P&I (Claims team Greece) on behalf of Ingenuity Marine Inc. As of October 25th it was moored at Rosario, Argentina.
