Marine accident round-up : 23rd September 2021

Container ship MSC Lauren (IMO 9467407) was placed under quarantine upon arrival at Callao anchorage, Chile, on September 21st after a crew member tested positive. The ship had arrived from Buenaventura, Colombia, and is deployed in the Andes Service between Asia and the West Coast of Latin America. MSC was reported to have notified its clients of the situation, telling them that all the cargo would remain on board until quarantine expires. As of September 22nd the vessel was at Callao Anchorage off Lima, Peru.

2011-built, Panama-flagged, 140,096 gt MSC Lauren is owned by Deucalion Shipping Co Ltd care of manager MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co of Geneva, Switzerland. It is entered with Standard Club on behalf of Deucalion Shipping Company Limited.

The Vera Su (IMO 8611219) suffered breaches of its hull during its grounding at a speed of about seven knots on the rocky shore between Kamen Bryag and the resort of Rusalka in the heart of the Yailata reserve, Bulgaria. No spill was reported, but a limited amount of fuel remained in the tanks of the vessel. A diving inspection was planned to establish the condition of the hull before refloating operations could be undertaken. The area was being guarded by the Border Police. The ship, loaded with fertilizers and bound from Yahzhy to Varna, remained stuck.

1989-built, Panama-flagged, 1,984 gt Vera Su is owned by VES Shipping management Ltd care of manager Kamer Marine Denizcilik of Istanbul, Turkey. ISM manager is Mimosa management. It is entered with Thomas Miller Specialty on behalf of Kamer Marine Shipping Ltd.
