Marine accident round-up : 20th September 2022

Tankship Seaborne Petro (IMO 9247833) caught fire in the waters of the Sunda Strait during the night of September 15th. The fire broke out in the engine room. There were no casualties. Later in the evening the fire was extinguished and was in the process of cooling.

2003-built, Indonesia-flagged, 57,529 gt Seaborne Petro is owned and managed by Waruna Nusa Sentana Pt of Jakarta, Indonesia. It is entered with North on behalf of PT Waruna Nusa Sentana. As of September 18th the vessel was listed as not under command in the Java Sea to the west of Jakarta.

Cargo ship Maximus 1 (IMO 9344734), which had been berthed in Izmi Kocaeli since September 13th, was alleged to have polluted the Gulf of Izmit on September 15th by discharging dirty ballast water. A pollution fine was imposed by the local municipality environmental pollution prevention department. An investigation file was opened by the local authority. Departure permission was cancelled by the Harbour Master until the payment of the fine together with cleaning expenses. As of September 18th the vessel was south of Istanbul in the Marmara sea, underway from Yarimca. Turkey, to Poti, Georgia, ETA September 23rd.

2004-built, Panama-flagged, 6,177 gt Maximus 1 is owned by DD Shipping Ltd care of manager Seahorse Shipping & Eng of Istanbul, Turkey. It is entered with Shipowners Club.

Cruise ship Viking Sea (IMO 9725421) broke off her moorings in the port of Ravenna in the morning of Sep 17, 2022, in stormy weather with wind in gusts of 150 km/h. Five tugs responded to the incident, and it took them about four hours to get ship under control and keep it in stable position, avoiding a grounding or allision. The ship returned to the Cruise Terminal in the afternoon, with all 870 passengers on board. Nobody was injured. Once the weather conditions permitted, the ship left the port of Ravenna at 8.50 p.m. en route to Corfu with an ETA as of Sep 20.

2016-built, Norway-flagged, 47,842 gt Viking Sea is owned by Viking Sea Ltd care of Viking River Cruises AG of Basel, Switzerland. It is managed by Viking River Cruises AG of Basel, Switzerland. ISM manager is Wilhelmsen Ship Management AS of Lysaker, Norway. It is entered with Steamship Mutual (European syndicate) on behalf of Viking Sea ltd. As of September 19th it was underway in the Adriatic Sea, en route form Ravenna, Italy, to Corfu, Greece, ETA September 20th.

Offshore processing ship GTA Tortue (IMO 9909716, listed on Equasis as GTA FPSO)) broke off her moorings in the typhoon Muifa which raged over Shanghai on Sep 17, 2022. Also the brand new offshore ship ‘Voltaire’ broke lose and drifted aground in Shanghai.

2022-built, Panama-flagged, 149,582 gt GTA Tortue is owned and managed by BP Mauritania Investments Ltd of Sunbury-on-Thames, UK. As of September 13th it was listed as stopped in the East China Sea.
