Zelek Star grounded on the Oranim Beach near Ashdod on December 24th 2019 (IMN, January 2nd 2020), en route from Ashdod to Vasilikos. She dragged anchor and was refloated on January 31st, 2005-built, Panama-flagged, 2,833 gt Zelek Star is owned by Kuru Shipping Inc care of manager Fuden Denizcilik Ticaret ve Sanayi AS of Istanbul, Turkey.
VLCC Yuan Hua Hu (IMO 9723588) encountered problems late on May 25th when northeast of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, while en route from Singapore to Angola. The ship headed for Port St Johns, the nearest port, reaching it in during the afternoon of May 27th, under tow. She was then anchored. It appeared, that the supertanker had suffered damage to engine shaft seals and will need shipyard-level repairs. The tanker will therefore be towed to Durban. Tug Smit Siyanda was standing by, awaiting the arrival of a more powerful tug, which will be needed to tow the VLCC to Durban. 2015-built, China-flagged, 160,081 gt Yuan Hua Hu is owned by Cosco Shipping Tanker Dalian of Dalian, Liaoning, and managed by Cosco Shipping Energy Trans of Shanghai, China. Ro-ro cargo ship Kompozitor Rakhmaninov (IMO 8606616) ran onto the left bank of River Volga under Starir (Old) Bridge, Astrakhan, during the evening of May 27th while proceeding downstream in ballast. Two tugs were deployed to refloat. Traffic was not affected. 1986-built, Russia-flagged, 6,894 gt Kompozitor Rakhmaninov is owned by Transfin-M of Moscow, Russia. It is managed by Transmorflot LLC of Limanskiy rayon, Astrakhanskaya oblast, Russia.
450 crew on Regent’s Seven Seas Navigator (IMO 9064126) have been quarantined in Barcelona. Spain’s Health Ministry announced the ship had arrived in Barcelona on Thursday, May 21st and a female crew with mild flu symptoms had been isolated. Due to the country’s state of emergency, cruise ships are currently forbidden to call at Spanish ports, but an exception was made for RSSC’s Navigator. The woman underwent a Covid-19 test and tested positive. She remained onboard and isolated from the others. As a precautionary measure, the entire ship was quarantined. The ship is passenger-free, carrying only crew from different nations who are now quarantined.
