Marine accident round-up : 1st April 2021

LPG tanker Syn Turais (IMO 9346914) suffered an engine failure south of Canakkale, Turkey, on March 23rd while en route from Istanbul,. Repair works could not be carried out by the crew, so the vessel was towed to Tuzla, starting March 26th. Around dawn on March 28th the tanker moored in the Tuzla shipyard area.

2007-built, Italy-flagged, 3,827 gt Syn Turais is owned by SR Gas 1 LLC care of manager Gasmare Synergy Srl of Saronno, VA, Italy. ISM manager is Synergas Srl of Naples, Italy. It is entered with Britannia on behalf of SR Gas 1 LLC.

General cargo ship Athos (IMO 9246267) came into contact with a dolphin at Brunsbuettel while approaching the Kiel locks during the night of March 29th. The ship’s stern reportedly sustained damages above and possibly also below the waterline. The ship was berthed at Brunsbuettel and resumed its Canal transit during the afternoon of Marche 30th en route from Hamburg to Szczecin, Poland.

2001-built, Antigua & Barbuda-flagged, 1,723 gt Athos is owned by Caribbean Shipping Ltd care of Baltnautic Shipmanagement Ltd of Klaipeda, Lithuania.

The Nafplio Port Authority, Greece, was informed during the morning of March 30th that a 36-year-old crew member of Celebrity Constellation (IMO 9192399) which was located near the Argolic Gulf, fell ill and needed to be medevaced. The cruise ship sailed to the anchorage of Nafplio where the patient was disembarked. An ambulance took him to the General Hospital of Argos for treatment.
