Marine accident round-up : 17th January 2022

General cargo ship Horizon 9 (IMO 9339935) was caught by strong winds and pushed against cargo ship Asian Flower (IMO 9839375) when it was departing the port of Kinuura, Japan, during the afternoon of January 12th. The Asian Flower was berthed at the opposite wharf. The Horizon 9 returned to its berth for investigations by the Japanese Coast Guard. The Asian Flower suffered damage in the allision and it required repairs before being able to sail again. As of January 15th the Horizon 9 remained stationary in Kinuura. The Asian Flower was underway to “JP Outside Water” and listed as “Not Under Command”.

2005-built, Panama-flagged, 9,587 gt Horizon 9 is owned by Seiyo Breeze Co Ltd care of manager Dalian Sea Carrier Co Ltd of Dalian, Liaoning, China. It is entered with West of England (Claims Team Hong Kong) on behalf of Seiyo Breeze Co Ltd.

2019-built, Panama-flagged, 12,162 gt Asian Flower is owned by Trio Happiness / Toda Ship Co care of manager Toda Kisen KK of Nakazone-cho, Shikokuchuo-shi, Ehime-ken, Japan. It is entered with Japan Club (Imabari Office in charge) on behalf of Trio Happiness SA.

Refrigerated cargo ship Polfoss (IMO 9393917) drifted aground after a blackout during the evening of January 13th in Kristiansund waters, Norway, on Skorpa coast. According to tracking the ship left Kristiansund earlier on January 13th but soon turned back. It was refloated early the following morning with the assistance of rescue boat Erik Bye and possibly a tug. It then berthed at Kristiansund. No leaks were reported.

2008-built, Norway-flagged, 3,538 gt Polfoss is owned by Pol Line Ltd care of manager Eimskip Island EHF of Reykjavik, Iceland. It is entered with Standard Club (European Division) on behalf of Pol Line Ltd.

Container ship MSC Lauren (IMO 9467407) suffered two new positive test results for Covid-19 at San Antonio, Chile, right after its arrival from Callao, Peru, on January 14th. The ship was moved to Valparaiso anchorage for quarantine. The vessel was detained in quarantine in September last year in the same port after just one positive test (IMN September 27th 2021).

2011-built, Panama-flagged, 140,096 gt MSC Lauren is owned by Deucalion Shipping Co Ltd care of MSC of Geneva, Switzerland. ISM manager is Mediterranean Shipping Co of Naples, Italy. It is entered with Standard Club on behalf of Deucalion Shipping Company Ltd.

Crew on the MSC feeder MSC SAMIRA III (IMO 9434462) returned positive lateral flow tests in Greenock, UK. Two of the crew were reported to be experiencing severe symptoms.

2009-built, Liberia-flagged, 27,114 gt MSC Samara III is owned by Hong Kong Spirit Shipping care of MSC Shipmanagement Ltd of Limassol, Cyprus. It is entered with Steamship Mutual (European division) on behalf of Hong Kong Shipping And Trading Ltd.

General cargo ship Najva 2 (IMO 8811637) ran aground at the 159 km mark in the Volga-Caspian Sea Channel on January 13th while en route from Iran to Astrakhan, Volga, Russia. Traffic was reported to be unaffected. As of the morning of January 15th the status of the ship was unknown. No AIS for the past few days and no updates from the Russian emergency services.
