Some of the cargo of general cargo ship Hasan (IMO 9016179) was discharged from the vessel onto the pier of Antalya, Turkiye under the supervision of surveyors and stevedores. The vessel had suffered water ingress in cargo hold No 2 on March 3rd. Subsequently, the cargo in the hold was re-lashed and re-secured. The discharged cargo was then reloaded on board. The ship sailed from Antalya on March 10th, en route to Beirut, where it berthed on March 12th.
1991-built, Sierra Leone-flagged, 4,382 gt Hasan is owned by Oasis Shipping Co care of Barhoum Maritime Co of Beirut, Lebanon. As of March 14th the vessel was moored in Beirut, Lebanon.
A crew member of fishing support vessel Víctor Angelescu (IMO 9798820) suffered a fracture to his right leg on March 9th about 90nm from the south Atlantic South Georgia Islands. The following morning, icebreaker ARA Almirante Irízar, which completed the crossing of the Drake Passage to enter the Beagle Channel towards the city of Ushuaia, was tasked to provide health care to the oceanographic fishing research vessel which in turn set sail towards the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, thus accelerating the meeting of the two ships. The ships rendezvoused about 350 miles east of Isla de los Estados on March 10th where, due to poor light, adverse weather conditions and very low visibility due to the prevailing fog,
the medevac was delayed until the morning of March 11th. In the meantime the injured crew member was assisted and monitored remotely by medical personnel from the Ushuaia Naval Hospital and from the icebreaker. Eventually a Sea King helicopter from the Second Naval Aviation Helicopter Squadron took off with the material prepared for the air evacuation, also carrying a nurse and rescue swimmers from the icebreaker. A rescue swimmer was lowered to the deck of the ship, together with a special stretcher. The injured crew member was then evacuated. The icebreaker headed at full speed towards the southern Argentina city of Ushuaia, with an ETA of March 13th. On arrive the patient was disembarked and transferred to a hospital in the city.
2017-built, Argentina-flagged, 1,336 gt Victor Angelescu is owned by Inidep of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is managed by Argentina Govt Min Comercio of Buenos Aires, Argentina. No AIS since March 1st, when the vessel was reported as underway from Mar Del Plata, Argentina, to the Georgias Islands.
A deckhand on fishing vessel Poolster (IMO 8431920) was reported as severely injured in the Cuxhaven, Germany, sea lock during the afternoon of March 10th. Trawler Lodairo, a tug from Taucher Otto Wulf and tanker Ebba 2 had entered the lock. The Poolster also tried to moor, but the deckhand was injured during the manoeuvre. The Cuxhaven fire brigade arrived at the sea lock and required that the water level in the lock be kept at a constant level. The fire brigade attached the high-altitude rescue kit to the cage of the turntable ladder and was able to remove the patient from the ship.
Tankship Elephant (IMO 9374868), which had been detained for a week in Ferrol in February after the Spanish authorities investigated a ship-to-ship transfer linked to a former Russian-flag tanker (IMN February 23rd) returned to the Russian oil export terminal in Ust-Luga on March 12th, for the first time in five months. The tanker loaded 720,000 barrels of Urals crude at the port and sailed on March 13th, heading for Port Said, with an ETA as of March 31.
