Marine accident round-up : 13th April 2021

Heavy lift yacht transporter Eemslift Hendrika (IMO 9671486) has been towed safely into port on Flatholmen in Ålesund, The Normand Drott towed the smoothly on the final leg into port.

Built in 2015 and registered in the Netherlands, the 111.6 metre Eemslift Hendrika is a yacht transport vessel, carrying smaller boats on its deck, according to Monaco-based Starclass Yacht Transport, which markets the ship’s services.

2015 built, Netherlands-flagged, 5,460 gt Eemslift Hendrika is owned by Eemslift Hendrika BV care of manager Amasus Support BV of Delfzjil, Netherlands.

Bulk carrier RHL Julia (IMO 9478901) was in allision bulk carrier Aisha Sarwar (IMO 9200433) at the outer anchorage of Chittagong, Bangladesh, on April 3rd.. Both ships suffered damage. The lightening of RHL Julia continued at Chittagong outer anchorage on April 8th and was expected to be completed by April 11th.  Lightening of the cargo of the Aisha Sarwar also continued at Chittagong outer anchorage. The Aisha Sarwar was expected to sail for Mongla on April 10th with a balance cargo on board, ready for final discharge at Mongla.

2009-built, Liberia-flagged, 31,721 gt RHL Julia is owned by RHL Julia Schiffahrts care of manager Hamburger Lloyd of Hamburg, Germany. It is entered with Gard P&I on behalf of MV “RHL Julia” Schiffahrtsgesellschaft mbH & Co KG. It is entered for H&M and Loss of Hire with Gard AS (claims leader) on behalf of RHL Reederei Hamburger Lloyd GmbH & Co KG.

2000-built, Bangladesh-flagged, 26,612 gt Aisha Sarwar is owned by SR Shipping Ltd care of manager Brave Royal Ship Management of Chattogram, Bangladesh. It is entered with West of England (Eastern Claims Team) on behalf of S R Shipping Ltd.

A sailor was reported as run over aboard RoRo container ship Sumela Seaways (IMO 9356749) by a towmaster during unloading operations in the afternoon of April 4th, in the port of Sète on the French Mediterranean coast. He was rescued by a team of firefighters and transferred to a local hospital. A SMUR helicopter later took the victim to the Montpellier University Hospital, but he died during the night. The circumstances of the accident remained to be determined.

2008-built, Turkey-flagged, 34,236 gt Sumela Seaways is owned and managed by DFDS Denizcilik Ve Tasimacilik of Istanbul, Turkey. It is entered with West of England (European Claims Team) on behalf of DFDS Denizcilik Ve Tasimacilik.

The bow of Passenger/Cargo RoRo catamaran Melina II (IMO 8841577) allided with the quay in the port of Athinios early on April 5th due to strong waves. The Port Authority of Thira, Greece was informed by the Master of the incident .The ramp became detached. There were no injuries and no marine pollution resulting from the incident. The ship had nine crew members and nine empty cargo vehicles on board. The Port Authority of Thira banned the ship from sailing until the damage was repaired and a class maintenance certificate could be presented by the attending classification society. The ship remained in port as of April 6th.
