General cargo ship BBC Wisconsin (IMO 9283966) allided with the quay in Kvarken Port, Vaasa, Finland, on the afternoon of June 18th when entering port, knocking down a crane in the process. However. the collapsed crane was old, so material cost might be small. An experienced pilot and the captain had decided that a tug was not needed for the vessel’s manoeuvring. 2004-built, 9,611 gt BBC Wisconsin is owned by Eternity Schiffahrts GmbH of Haren (Ems), Germany. Ferry Maria Buono (IMO 8822167) collided with a pier while docking at Casamicciola, Ischia Island, Italy, Gulf of Naples, on the morning of June 17th. About 50 passengers were slightly injured, but the ferry suffered no structural damage. The ferry was detained for inspection under suspicion of technical deficiencies. 1990-built, 2,543 Maria Buono is owned and managed by Medmar Navi SpA of Naples, Italy. It is entered with QBE’s British Marine.

The wreck of feeder chemical tanker Aquarius (IMO 8319160), which was believed to have sunk off Tanjung Pengelih in Johor following an explosion, has reportedly been found by the Royal Malaysian Navy. Its hydrography vessel Perantau detected an underwater object that was believed to be the missing tanker. The ship lost contact with its agent in Singapore about 4.6nm south-west of Tanjung Pengelih just before dawn on June 15th. Six crew members are missing. 1984-built, 654 gt Aquarius is owned by Alam Armada Corp of Johor, Malaysia, and managed by G Ocean Trading Pte, also of Singapore.

A crew member of chemical oil products tanker Bergstraum (IMO 9108740) which was berthed in the port of Cork at the time, has been airlifted to hospital with a suspected broken leg after an accident on board. The injury occurred when either a cable or rope snapped as he worked on board, striking one of his legs. 1996-built, 6,045 gt Bergstraum is owned and managed by Utkilen Shipping of Bergen, Norway. It is entered with Gard P&I on behalf of Utkilen Shipping. Swedish Club is lead insurer for hull & machinery.

Oil products tanker Damia Desgagnés (IMO 9766437) was refloated and towed to a quay at Prescott in eastern Ontario during the morning of June 17th to permit inspectors from the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) to investigate the reasons for its grounding during the night of June 15th in the Morrisburg area between Cornwall and Brockville, Ontario. The tanker was en route from Montreal to Nanticoke, Ontario. The tanker apparently suffered a breakdown in its propulsion system. The ship only entered service at the end of March. 2017-built, 11,978 gt Damia Desgagnes is owned by the Royal Bank of Canada and managed by Desgagnes Transport Inc of Quebec. It is entered with Shipowners’ P&I Club on behalf of member Transport Desgagnes Inc.

Trawler Repunte (IMO 6603024) sank on June 17th off Rawson port, Argentina while returning with a catch of prawns. Of the 12 fishermen on board, two were rescued, one dead body was recovered, four more were spotted but have not yet been recovered, and five were considered missing.
