On April 12th an underwater inspection of the hull of the still grounded Tallas (IMO 7364546) was carried out by divers in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul, Turkey, in order to ascertain the latest grounding position of the vessel. The salvage plan will be revised depending on the diver’s final report. Cambodia-flagged Tallas was built in 1974 and is 745 gt. It is owned and managed by Importica LP of Inverness, UK.
Damaged chemical oil products tanker Gannet S (IMO 9407031) arrived at Yalova Shipyard in Tuzla anchorage, Turkey, on April 10th and was berthed in shipyard pier on April 11th. Permanent repair works were scheduled to commence upon completion of class surveyor’s detailed technical inspection. The vessel suffered engine failure at Dakar, Senegal, West Africa at the end of February 2018 and was taken in tow by an offshore-tug on March 6th after it transpired that the repair works could not be carried out by crew. 2008-built, Panama-flagged, 11,438 gt Gannet S is owned and managed by Seaspirit Shipping & Trading of the Marshall Islands. It is entered with Lodestar on behalf of Sea Spirit Shipping & Trading Ltd.
Bulk carrier Banos A (IMO 9548653) suffered water ingress in cargo hold 3 while en route from Gwangyang, South Korea, to Gemlik, Turkey. Damaged cargo (steel coils) was found inside the hold two days after its arrival in Gemlik on April 4th. On April 8th the vessel shifted from the Rota Port in Gemlik to Izmit Kocaeli in order to discharge the remaining cargo. Detailed surveys will be carried out by P&I and cargo underwriters upon completion of discharge in order to ascertain the cause of the incident. 2010-built, Marshall Islands-flagged, 33,044 gt Banos A is owned by Tallulah Bay SA care of manager Elfshipping Co SA of Athens, Greece. Removal operations at general cargo ship Chrisdul (IMO 8935794) were to be resumed at the end of April 2018. Demolition work had been halted for the winter season. The vessel dragged anchor and grounded at Famagusta Anchorage during bad weather on December 22nd 2016, causing structural damage to the side shell and bottom, with ensuing water ingress. 1977-built, Tanzania-flagged, 438 gt Chrisdul is owned and managed by Neva Marine Co SA of Belize.
General cargo ship Leda (IMO 8721442) ran aground before dawn on April 11th on the River Don near buoy 121 at Azov. The ship became stuck while sailing downstream with a pilot on board. She was carrying 2,436 tons of scrap metal from Rostov to Samsun. Several attempts by two tugs to refloat Leda failed. 1987-built, Moldova-flagged, 3,086 gt Leda is owned by Westward Shipping Ltd-MAI care of manager Troy Denizcilik Turizm Ltd Sti (Troy Shipping & Tourism Co Ltd) of Istanbul, Turkey. It is entered with MS Amlin on behalf of Westward Shipping Ltd.
General cargo ship Diamond 8 (IMO 9054949) was seized by the Philippine Navy during the night of April 14th in Zamboanga waters off southwest Mindanao island. The ship. manned by a Bangladeshi and Chinese crew, allegedly smuggled 1,359 tons of Vietnamese rice into the Philippines. The ship was seized after the Navy found its movements suspicious, and was taken to Zamboanga for further investigation. 1992-built, Mongolia-flagged, 2,116 gt Diamond 8 is owned by Trumpway International Trading care of Chi-Ocean International Shipping Ltd, Hong Kong. Manager is Circle Ocean International of Hong Kong, China.
