16 Ukrainian sailors are living in difficult conditions on container ship Mekong Spirit (IMO 9118513) in Crete. The ship was detained on May 23rd at a military base in Suda Bay because it was allegedly carrying explosives to Sudan. The ship has no running water or air conditioning. All toilets were out of order,  and the crew could eat only dry products because the fresh food had rotted due to the lack of refrigeration. Lumar SA in Geneva confirmed that part of the cargo was destined for Sudan but said that all documents were in order for the transport of the explosives. It charged the Greek authorities for the slowness of their investigation and and complained that they had acted outside the jurisdiction by intercepting the vessel in international waters. On July 7th Lumar announced the end of the diesel supply to Mekong Spirit. As a result the living conditions on board had radically deteriorated. An Athens prosecutor has yet to decide on the legality of the transport of explosives from Turkey. No detail of insurance of vessel found in databases.
