Manila Amendments to be implemented

Britannia Club correspondents in Singapore have reported that, with effect from January 1st 2017, the 2010 Manila Amendments to the STCW Convention will be implemented. All officers working on board Singapore-flagged sea-going ships will need to have their Certificates of Competency re-validated in order to comply with the provisions of the Manila Amendments. Additionally, ratings serving as able seamen (deck and engine) and as electro technical ratings) must hold a Certificate of Proficiency which complies with the Manila Amendments. If they do not comply they cannot sail on a Singapore flagged ship.
