Major fire severely damages two luxury yachts undergoing overhaul

Two luxury yachts, the Lohengrin (IMO 8735998) and the Reflection, were severely damaged by a fire on November 16th.

The vessels were both undergoing overhauls at the Yachts Repair Yard in the Universal Marine Centre, Fort Lauderdale. One of the yachts measures about 160ft and the other more than 100ft.

More than 60 Broward firefighters spent about four hours fighting the fire, which was estimated to have caused some $24m in damage.

The fire was reported to have started on the Lohengrin, after which the wind caused it to spread to the Reception.

By the morning of November 17th, some firefighters and three fire boats were still on the scene, extinguishing the remaining hot spots. Both yachts were surrounded by scaffolding, which had to be removed by a crane.

2006-built, Marshall Islands-flagged, 470 gt Lohengrin is owned and managed by Lohengrin Ltd of Majuro, Marshall Islands.
