MAIB adds Pentalina grounding to investigations table

A new case has been added to the Marine Accident Investigation Branch’s current investigations table following the machinery failure and subsequent grounding of the UK registered ro-ro passenger ferry Pentalina (IMO 9437969) at St Margaret’s Hope, South Ronaldsay, Scotland, on April 29th 2023.

Meanwhile, the status for the investigation into the UK’s emergency response to a fatal sinking of an unnamed migrant boat on November 24th 2021, has also been updated to ‘Consultation stage’.

2008-built, UK-flagged, 2,382 gt Pentalina is owned and managed by Pentland Ferries of Orkney, UK. It is entered with Shipowners’ Club on behalf of Pentland Ferries.
