Major carrier Maersk has launched a weekly barge service from the port of Constanta in Romania to the port of Reni in southwest Ukraine.
Maersk accepted that the logistics of operations in and around Ukraine remained a challenge, the Denmark-based company said that its new offering would provide a restricted degree of container connectivity to Ukraine.
Maersk said that the service was now fully operational across two routes – via the Constanta/Danube Channel and the Black Sea. It said that the transit time was about 36 hours.
Maersk said that all bookings would be subject to operational capacity and the correct documentation being submitted. That will include a waiver for Maersk, with the client accepting the insertion of a “Ukraine clause” that takes account of the ongoing risk in the area.
