RSA was named as the lead insurer for hull on fishing trawler Kodiak Enterprise (IMO 7517703), which caught fire last Saturday April 8th and looks set to be a total loss.
The Kodiak Enterprise was built as an offshore supply vessel and launched in 1977. It was converted to a factory trawler in 1989. Trident Seafoods, the US’s largest seafood company uses the vessel primarily to harvest and process wild Alaska pollock.
It had recently returned from the Bering Sea and was undergoing a maintenance period in Tacoma, its operator said. Only three engineers were aboard the vessel on the night of the fire, and they were evacuated safely. Four firefighters reportedly sustained injuries during an initial attack on the fire.
1977-built, USA-flagged, 3,382 gt Kodiak Enterprise is owned and managed by Trident Seafoods Corp of Seattle, Washington, USA.
