Kidnapped crew members “alive and together

The 11 crew members taken hostage by pirates from FWN Rapide off Port Harcourt, Nigeria, on April 21st are alive and together, according to ForestWave, manager of the attacked cargo ship.

In an update on Wednesday the company said that it had managed to establish contact with its crew after days of searching.

The ship was en route from Takoradi, Ghana and heading for Port Harcourt, Nigeria when it came under attack. Three crew members managed to escape pirate hands during the attack, one of them by hiding on board the vessel for several nights before being discovered.

The general cargo ship is currently in a safe position in Nigerian waters.

2005-built, Netherlands-flagged, 7,767 gt FWN Rapide is owned by FWN Rapide BV care of manager ForestWave Navigation BV (FWN) of Groningen, Netherlands.
