The dismantling of general cargo ship Kathryn Spirit (IMO 6717069), which was abandoned in Beauharnois since 2011, will have cost the Canadian government C$11.5m by the time the project has been completed.
The wreck has now been removed from the St. Lawrence, but the end of the work on the site will not be until late 2019.
The bill for dismantling and for site restoration and additional work” amounts to C$11.46m. The federal government, which had to take over the wreckage of the ship, now has to remove the backfill that was installed to dismantle the wreck. This should be done in December 2018.
1967-built, Canada-flagged, 9,261 gt Kathryn Spirit is owned and managed by McKeil Marine Ltd of Burlington, Ontario, Canada.
