Just over 10% of fuel will be “scrubbed”, Woodmac predicts

Research from research consultancy Woodmac, a Verisk subsidiary, has forecast that just over 10% of marine fuel will be scrubbed from January 1st 2020, when the MARPOL 2020 0.5% sulphur cap regulations become operative.

Woodmac anticipated compliance with the regulation to reach 85% in 2020, rising to full compliance by 2025.

Use of LNG was expected to rise by 70% between 2019 and 2020, displacing 100,000 bpd of marine fuels in 2020

It anticipated that the availability of very low-sulphur fuel oil would be 1.4m bpd in 2020 and 1.7m bpd by 2024.
