BIMCO has said that it has received a letter from the Italian Ports Association which emphasizes that Italian Ports were currently fully operational. The Italian Port Association were operating all their regular services, while ensuring the safety and health of operatives.
Port Authority, Customs, Harbour Master, Health department offices etc were all functioning.
The restrictions enforced by the Italian Government refer only to the Cruise sector, the association said, noting that the measures adopted by the Government in no way restricted the transport of cargo in the country.
The precautionary obligation of the “Free Sanitary Practice” issued by the Local Office of Maritime Health remained in force. This document authorizes ships to berth, and all Italian ports are equipped and ready to apply any new measures deemed necessary by the Italian Office of Civil Defence, without compromising cargo operations.
