Iran releases seven crew members of seized tanker Stena Impero

Iran has released seven of the 23 crew members of UK-flagged, Swedish-owned tanker Stena Impero that was seized on July 19th, Sweden’s foreign minister Margot Wallstrom said on Wednesday September 4th.

Stena Impero was detained by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in the Strait of Hormuz for alleged marine violations, two weeks after Gibraltar detained an Iranian tanker. Sweden’s Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom said that the Swedish embassy in Tehran had confirmed that seven of the 23 members had been released.

Wallstrom did not say which of the crew members had been released or mention their current whereabouts.
