Iran could release seven crew members of Stena Impero, claims state TV report

Iran could be about to free seven of the crew members of the detained tanker Stena Impero (IMO 9797400), Iranian state television reported on Wednesday September 5th.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said on TV that the seven – five Indians, one Latvian and one Russian – were to be freed on humanitarian grounds and could leave Iran soon.

The Stena Impero was detained on July 19th, two weeks after Gibraltar detained the then Iranian tanker Grace 1. That ship was released on August 15th after promising that the oil on board was not headed for Syria.
