Indonesia plans floating isolation centre

PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Pelni) is preparing the MV/KM Umsini (IMO 8303264) to be the country’s first floating isolation centre for Covid-19 patients in Makassar, after a surge in infections in the capital of South Sulawesi Province.

The Umsini will function as an isolation centre for asymptomatic Covid-19 patients  and patients with mild symptoms.

The vessel will be able to accommodate 804 patients and 60 health workers.

Access to the upper deck will be available so that patients can use it as an open area for exercise.

The Umsini has been docked at Makassar Port since July 14th.

1985-built, Indonesia-flagged, 14,501 gt Umsini is owned by Indonesia Govt Min Sea Comms of Jakarta, Indonesia. It is managed by Pelni of Jakarta, Indonesia.
