The local authorities at Shenzhen port within the Pearl River Delta have now formally announced that, from October 1st 2016, vessels will be required to use fuel oil with a sulphur content not exceeding 0.5% m/m, or equivalent emission reduction measures. This requirement extends to the ports of Yantian, Shekou, Chiwan, Mawan and Dachan Bay, according to an update from The Standard Club.
Where equivalent measures are to be used, except when using shore power or Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), prior permission will need to be obtained from the Shenzhen Maritime Safety Administration and the Human Settlements and Environment Commission of Shenzhen Municipality.
