Hearings slated for container ship crew after drug seizure

Detention hearings have been scheduled in Philadelphia for six crew members of containership MSC Gayane (IMO 9770763)  following the seizure of more than 35,000 lb of cocaine (IMN June 24th). The six crew members of the MSC Gayane were scheduled for Monday July 1st detention hearings on charges of conspiracy to possess cocaine aboard a ship.

Authorities said they boarded the ship in the port of Philadelphia about a week ago for a routine screening but detected anomalies while examining seven shipping containers.

MSC Gayane is assigned to MSC’s NWC-USA-SAWC rotation, and she called at ports in the Bahamas, Panama, Colombia and Peru prior to her arrival in Philadelphia.
