Half a ton of cocaine found in cargo hold of bulk carrier in Hamburg

German police discovered about 500kg of cocaine on bulk carrier Budva (IMO 9693501) during the morning of May 2nd after boarding and searching the vessel when the ship arrived at Hamburg.

The cocaine was found hidden in what was described as “cargo area”. One of the 23 Montenegrin crew was arrested.

The ship had arrived at Hamburg from Santos, Brazil, via Casablanca, Morocco. It was reported that the drug discovery and subsequent  arrest were the result of a joint international operation.

The vessel sailed for Lagos, Nigeria, on May 4th, with an ETA of May 19th.
