Haiti unions call for strikes

North of England P&I Club’s correspondent in Haiti has reported that several local unions in Haiti were calling for strikes commencing on Monday October 25th.

It was not yet known if the strikes would impact on port operations, which had hitherto been running normally.

Local correspondent E&M International Consulting SRL advised vessels calling at Haiti to remain vigilant, to keep crewmembers onboard the vessel and implement strict ISPS procedures. This is mostly due to due to the civil unrest/riots which are occurring in the country. There was also reported to be an increase in criminal activities in recent months after the death of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse.
