Greenpeace activists board oil rig

Greenpeace has boarded oil rig West Hercules at the Skipavika yard on the West coast of Norway. Two activists are on the rig and have requested a meeting with the oil rig’s captain. A further 10 activists are on nearby vessels. The rig is contracted by Statoil to drill for oil at several wells in the Barents Sea this summer.

Greenpeace has demanded that Statoil suspends all drilling until there is a final verdict in a Norwegian court case which Greenpeace has lost in a lower court, but is taking to appeal.
