Fire extinguished after explosion on ship in Jebel Ali Port, Dubai

A fire that broke out following an explosion aboard a container ship in DP World’s Dubai Jebel Ali Port was extinguished on Thursday July 8th.

Dubai Media Office confirmed the source of the blast was a small containership preparing to dock at the Jebel Ali container terminal. The media office said the fire was extinguished within 40 minutes, with the cooling process now underway. No casualties had been reported.

The ship had yet to be identified formally, but it is widely said by tracking specialists to be 210 teu, 2,745 gt Ocean Trader (IMO 9056739), still moored at Jebel Ali as of July 8th.

The port was still being assessed for damage, but sources told Splash that operations were still running at 100%

Jebel Ali Port Authority said that “we are taking all necessary measures to ensure the normal movement of ships in the port continues without any disruption”.

As of July 8th the vessel was moored at Jebel Ali.

1993-built, Comoros-flagged, 2,745 gt Ocean Trader is owned by Sash Shipping Corp care of manager Inzu Charter LLC of Dubai, UAE.
