Explosion reported on tankship in Indonesia

An explosion and subsequent fire was reported on oil products tanker Ratu Yamani (IMO 9731121) on July 12th, near Kalimantan, Indonesia. The KRI Escolar-871 rescued 12 of the crew members in the Muara Barito lego area during the afternoon of July 12th. During the evacuation a second explosion occurred in the bow area.

Later that evening SAR boat Laksmana 241 arrived at the scene. The SAR team from Basarnas Banjarmasin monitored the fire fighting efforts carried out by two tugs.

After the cooling process, the SAR team from Basarnas Banjarmasin conducted a thorough inspection of the tanker to make sure there were no other victims still trapped inside.

2014-built, Indonesia-flagged, 2,999 gt Ratu Yamani is owned and managed by Barokah Gemilang Perkasa Pt of Balikpapan, Indonesia. As of July 15th the vessel was listed as “stopped” at Banjarmasin.
