Ex-Beazley marine boss Washbourn back with Pine Walk platform marine MGA

London market marine underwriter Clive Washbourn is to return to underwriting via Fidelis’s MGA platform Pine Walk, reportedly with $100m in backing from Fidelis, according to multiple reports.

Pine Walk was founded in 2017 by CEO Rinku Patel, with Fidelis, as an MGA incubator. Pine Walk Capital Ltd is a Fidelis Group company.

Clive Washbourn, referred to by Lloyds List as “one of the rock stars of marine insurance” led a marine based account at syndicate 623 (Beazley) from December 1998, having previously been Active Underwriter at Syndicate 375 (ACE), where he spent seven years, the last year of which he was Active Underwriter. He stepped down from his role at Beazley ((where he was succeeded by Tim Turner) in February 2019 (IMN February 11th 2019).

Washbourn is also an enthusiastic racegoer and erstwhile racehorse owner, including History Writer and Danceteria in 2019, and Thundering Blue, until the latter sustained a fatal injury during a race in September 2020,
