Evergreen told to pay further fines after grounding in Chesapeake Bay

Taiwan-based Evergreen, the owner/operator of 11,850 teu container ship Ever Forward (IMO 9850551), has been told by the state of Maryland to pay another $676,000 in order enhance state oyster bars.

The Ever Forward ran aground in 24ft of mud on March 13th 2022. It was not refloated until April 17th, which was only achieved after several failed attempts, a high tide, dredging around the ship and the removal of 505 containers in order to lighten the vessel.

Last month the operating license of the pilot of the vessel at the time was suspended, according to the Maryland Department of Labor, citing his excessive use of his mobile phone at the time.

2020-built, Singapore-flagged, 117,340 gt Ever Forward is owned and managed by Evergreen Marine Asia Pte Ltd of Singapore. ISM manager is Evergreen Marine Corp of Taipei City, Taiwan. It is entered with Gard AS on behalf of Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong) Ltd. Gard is claims leader for hull on behalf of Evergreen Marine Corp (Taiwan) Ltd. As of January 5th the vessel was moored at Qingdao, China, having arrived from Colon, Panama, on January 5th.
