EU decides to act against pirates

The European Union has said that its anti-piracy flotilla would begin operations off the Somalian coast next week. EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said that the six warships and three maritime patrol aircraft would have “very robust” rules of engagement.

The EU mission will replace a NATO task force. which has been in the Gulf of Aden since October, escorting cargo vessels carrying humanitarian aid to Somalia
