ECSA and ICS respond to piracy attack

The European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) have denounced the attack on Norwegian flagged bulk carrier Bonita (IMO 9494060) owned by Ugland Shipping, by pirates while she was at anchor off Cotonou in Benin, early on Saturday morning, November 2nd.

Nine crewmembers, including the captain, were taken off the vessel.

ECSA said that it was monitoring the situation closely, adding that the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, which is a member of both ICS and ECSA, was in close contact with the shipping company and the relevant authorities.

2010-built, Norway-flagged, 32,315 gt Bonita is owned by Ugland Shipping AS and managed by Ugland Marine Services AS of Grimstad, Norway. It is entered with Gard P&I (Bermuda) on behalf of Ugland Shipping AS.
