DOJ’s Environment division imposes $363m in fines in 2016

The US Department of Justice’s Environment and Natural Resources Division imposed criminal penalties against shipping companies in relation to pollution from ocean going vessels (OGV) of more than $363m in fines.

“The division continued its robust program of prosecuting shipping companies and crew for the intentional discharges of pollutants from ocean-going vessels in US waters,” the division said in its report on 2016.
