Container ship GSL Eleni (IMO 9285677), which suffered a rudder jam on December 29th, was moved to Seattle, Washington State, on January 18th in order to offload containers on board. It was reportedly being planned to tow the ship to China for repairs. Meanwhile the rudder was locked in position.
The vessel had left Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on December 28th 2022, bound for Yokohama. The rudder became stuck as it passed Juan de Fuca Strait on December 29th, causing it to become disabled. It was towed to Victoria to undergo repairs.
2004-built, Liberia-flagged, 83,133 gt GSL Eleni is owned by Global Ship Lease 30 LLC care of ConChart Commercial Inc of Athens, Greece. It is entered with London Club on behalf of Global Ship Lease 30 LLC.
