Denmark extends liability requirements for jet-skis, etc

All speedboats with a hull length below 15 m, personal watercrafts/jet skis and similar vessels must now be covered by third-party liability insurance if operating in Danish waters as a result of new regulations. The Danish Maritime Authority has said that if a vessel does not have insurance coverage, it must not be operated.

The new requirements regarding mandatory third party liability insurance, strict liability in case of personal injury and wider options for confiscation of vessels came into force on May 15th after  the Danish parliament passed a bill in April that was intended to increase safety at sea.

A certificate documenting proper insurance coverage must be held.

The regulations cover Danish and foreign speedboats and personal watercrafts that enter Danish waters. If a foreign vessel does not already have the proper insurance, it is possible to purchase short-term insurance
