Costa Cruises suspends operations to Greece due to Covid-19 restrictions

Costa Cruises, part of Carnival Corp, has suspended cruises for the Costa Deliziosa (IMO 9398917) due to new travel restrictions in the country, imposed in the face of a surge in Covid-19 infections. The ship completed its latest cruise on November 7th in Trieste. It will then cease operations for seven weeks, cancelling cruises on November 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th, and December 5th, 12th and 19th.

The Costa Smeralda, the second Costa ship currently in service, will continue its cruises in Italy as planned.

When the Costa Deliziosa resumes sailing on December 26th it will stick to an Italian itinerary in the Adriatic Sea and eastern Mediterranean.

Greece’s three-week lockdown gave Costa Cruises little choice. Residents are only allowed to leave their homes for essential reasons, such as for work, physical exercise and medical needs. They have to text the authorities first.
