Italy-based offshore oil & gas industry cointractor Micoperi temporarily suspended on December 1st the cleaning and restoration of the Giglio seabed, where Costa Concordia sank, according to a local report.
Ravenna-based Micoperi had been tasked with restoring the sea bottom of Punta Gabbianara. The work should have been completed around the end of 2017. Micoperi has apparently ordered the transfer of the platform to the port of Santo Stefano, without stating the causes of a suspension.
There was speculation that negotiations were under way between Micoperi and Costa Crociere to obtain reschedule the contract.
The second hypothesis was that Micoperi had assessed that it was no longer able to complete the operations and had decided to terminate the contract.
