Container ship Baltic Tern (IMO 9313199) lost a reported five containers overboard after being caught in rough weather during the morning of April 7th while the vessel was about 15 nm north of Ameland island, West Frisian Islands, Netherlands.
The ship reduced speed after the loss and proceeded in a northern direction. The ship is en route from St Petersburg to Rotterdam and had an ETA of April 7th.
Three containers were loaded with merchandise, one was empty and the fifth was loaded with acetone. The overboard containers were said to be drifting in a south-easterly direction, so could end up on the coast of a West Frisian island.
Containers on the upper deck in the bow section collapsed, damaging several containers still on board.
As of early evening April 8th local time the vessel was at port in Rotterdam.
