Norwegian marine insurer and P&I Club Gard has announced the opening for nominations for the Claes Isacson Scholarship. Isacson joined Gard in 1996 to set up an office in Gothenburg. In 1999 he was promoted to head of P&I underwriting and became CEO in 2001. He died in 2013.
Against the background of Isacson’s engagement in and commitment to the shipping and marine insurance industries during his entire working life, and his particular focus on internal education and training through the establishment of the Gard Academy, Gard’s intention is that the scholarship will help young people to finance an education at university level with a view to finding work within the shipping and marine insurance sectors.
The Claes Isacson Scholarship is awarded annually and amounts to $20,000 which may be awarded to one student or split between several students..
The applicant must be 18 years of age or older and must have commenced studies at a university or equivalent educational institution focusing on subjects related to, or of importance to, the shipping industry and/or the marine insurance business.
The applicant must present a plan for the completion of his/her studies and set out to what extent the scholarship will be used for the purpose of financing a special project or course being part of the education programme he/she has already commenced.
The applicant must provide certified copies of exam certificates from that part of the education programme(s) at university level or equivalent educational institution he/she already has completed.
The applicant should outline future career plans and describe the extent to which he/she wishes to work in the shipping and marine insurance business.
The Scholarship is open to students from any country.
The Scholarship Committee will interview selected applicants before announcing the winner of the Scholarship.
