Heavy load carrier Yu Zhou Qi Hang (IMO 9643776) accidentally knocked over a crane in the port of Keelung, Taiwan during the afternoon of October 14th.
At the time the barge was transporting three new bridge cranes to the west coast container terminal. The old onshore crane, which was scheduled for replacement, toppled over five containers in the port.
No injuries were reported.
The cranes onboard the Yu Zhou Qi Hang were owned by the China Container Terminal Corporation and were set to replace the old cranes in Keelung Port.
The crane is reported to have collapsed on five containers at the port, four of which were reportedly empty.
Because of the accident, piers 20 and 21 will remain closed through to October 18th.
The cost of the damage was estimated at more than $9m.
2012-built, China-flagged, 9,968 gt Yu Zhou Qi Hang is owned and managed by Hainan Yuzhou International of Haikou, Hainan, China. It is entered with UK Club on behalf of Hainan Yuzhou International Shipping Co Ltd. As of October 15th the vessel was moored at Keelung, Taiwan.
