Cargo ship intercepted by Senegal Navy

The Senegalese Navy intercepted general cargo ship Asso 6 (IMO 7946875) about 80nm north of Dakar on June 5th. Two patrol boats, special forces of the Navy and a surveillance aircraft of the Air Force were all used during the action.

The ship had seven crew members on board at the time. It was escorted to the Admiral Faye Gassama base in Dakar where it arrived during the evening of June 6th.

The Technical and Scientific Police Division, the Joint Container Control Unit, the Maritime Subdivision of Customs, the Gendarmerie and the National Navy were reported to have found a shipment of hashish on board. 279 bags were counted, each containing an average of 30 kg of hashish, with a total weight of 8,370 kg. The ship had sailed from Safi on May 29th with a destination of Abidjan and an ETA of June 13th. As of June 8th the vessel was stopped at Dakar.

1978-built Togo-flagged, 780 gt Asso 6 is owned and managed by South Europe Maritime Co of Tripoli, Lebanon.
