A Canadian national has been confirmed as one of the three oil workers who were kidnapped in Nigeria on Saturday April 27th. The three workers, from Canada, Scotland and Nigeria were abducted during an early-morning raid on a rig owned by Niger Delta Petroleum Resources in Ogbele, Rivers State, according to a Reuters report. The abduction was the second in the Delta region within a week.
Global Affairs Canada said that officials from the consulate were supporting the family of the kidnapped Canadian. A statement added that they were working to get more information from Nigerian authorities. A Nigerian military spokesperson in Nigeria said troops were searching the swamps and that police have increased the level of security in that area.
