A Brazilian federal judge has handed down a ruling that would see Brazil banning the export of live cattle from all its ports. Federal judge Djalma Gomes’s ruling last week stated that animals “are not things. They are sentient living beings, that is, individuals who feel hunger, thirst, pain, cold, anguish, fear.”
The court ruling was given after the National Forum for the Protection and Defence of Animals filed a law suit in 2017. The case is subject to appeal.
