Auto Banner fire could end in CTL

The fire aboard vehicles carrier Auto Banner (IMO 8608066) was under control on May 22nd and was expected to be extinguished by May 23rd, although the ship continued to smoulder and was thought likely to be declared a constructive total loss. The vessel was loaded with 2,100 vehicles when the blaze started on deck 11, where 200 of them were stored. Deck 11 is reported to have collapsed onto Deck 10. Approaching 1,500 vehicles are said to have been burned in some form. One report said that the cars were mainly Hyundai and Kia-manufactured vehicles, with 200 used vehicles on board. Another report said that all the vehicles were pre-owned. The fire erupted on a cargo deck at around 09:40 Seoul time on May 21st at Incheon port, South Korea.

There were 110 fire engines and three fire fighting helicopters in attendance, with 398 firefighters. One firefighter was hospitalized after falling while boarding the ship. 1988-built, Panama-flagged, 52,422 gt (6,022 AEU) Auto Banner is owned by Atinum Marine No. Five SA care of manager Hyundai Glovis Co Ltd of Seoul, South Korea.
