ReCAAP ISC has released an incident alert in which it noted that incidents of armed robbery against ships in the eastbound lane of Singapore Strait were continuing, with three incidents reported between April 8th and April 11th.
The three incidents occurred in close proximity to each other (Tanjung Pergam, Pulau Bintan, Indonesia) and the two incidents on April 8th occurred within four hours of each other.
The perpetrators were spotted in the engine room during one of the incidents on April 8th and also during the incident on April 11th.
Engine spares were reported stolen during the incident on April 11th.
A total of 10 incidents have been reported in the Singapore Strait this year, of which nine were in the eastbound lane. There were 34 incidents reported in the Singapore Strait in 2020.
Five thieves in the Singapore Strait were apprehended by the Indonesian Navy on February 21st, bur ReCAAP said that incidents had continued to occur in the area.
ReCAAP ISC urged the littoral States to increase patrols and enforcement in their respective waters as well as strengthen coordination among the littoral States, including information sharing on the latest situation, and the criminal groups involved, in order to make more arrests of the perpetrators.
Bulk carrier Trina Oldendorff (IMO 9642370), petroleum/chemical tanker Harrisburg (IMO 9859210) and bulk carrier, Pantazis L (IMO 9272955) were the three ships that were victims of the attempted burglaries.

2003-built, Liberia-flagged, 39,746 gt Pantazis L is owned by Panship Ltd care of manager Kyla Shipping of Athens, Greece. It is entered with Gard P&I on behalf of Panship Ltd. It is entered for H&M with AGCS on behalf of Kyla Shipping Co.
