American Club update on pre-employment medical examinations (PEME) and Covid-19

American Club has said that the significant restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic on shipowners’ ability to perform regular crew changes continued to be a challenge for the maritime community. As a result, (and superseding the previous policy notified in Circular 16/20 of April 17th), American Club’s Managers are further extending the validity of American Club PEME certificates to August 31st 2020 for seafarers originating from Bulgaria, India, Indonesia, Latvia, Philippines, Poland, Romania, the Russian Federation and Ukraine who:

  1. currently hold valid American Club PEME certificates which have expired, or which are due to expire prior to August 31, 2020; and
  2. are currently deployed onboard a vessel entered for P&I cover with the Club.

For seafarers awaiting deployment, the current requirements remain in effect, as summarized at:

Any requests for exceptions to this policy will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Managers, and will require their prior approval.
